Jakarta, Ekuatorial – Despite of less coverage during their presidential campaigns, Joko “Jokowi” Widodo and Jusuf “JK” Kalla have incorporated environmental issues in their vision and mission document. Below is the list extracted from the document:

First, establish a permanent policy based on the notion that the country is on the verge of humanity crisis caused by environmental destruction.

Second, implement economical independence through strategic sectors, achieve food security, environment restoration, and cease land-use changes for industry, mining, and housing.

Third, strengthen villages’ roles through Law on Villages implementation.

Four, protect and acknowledge indigenous people’s rights by implementing Decree of People’s Consultative Assembly (TAP MPR) No. IX/2001 on Agrarian Reform and Natural Resources Management, Constitutional Court decree No. 35/2012 and speed up the issuance of Indigenous People’s Rights Acknowledgment and Protection bill.

Five, push the bill on agrarian conflicts resolution.

Six, resolve agrarian conflicts to achieve land reform which determine ownerships and its uses.

Seven, uphold environmental law indiscriminately without concerns of losing investors.

Eight, initiate a legal instrument with a special task force to deal with illegal logging, illegal fishing and illegal mining.

Nine, prioritize corruption cases related to natural resources industries.

Ten, resolve land conflicts and oppose criminalization towards people’s fighting for their rights.

Eleven, energy security through decreasing oil and gas import and increase domestic production, energy renewable, — geothermal, hydro, and biofuel, development. In addition, maximizing coal and gas to increase domestic production.

Twelve, consider climate change not from environment perspective but also economic.

Thirteen, forestry management through law enforcement on illegal logging, forest development, non-timber forest product development, sustainable forest management, tackling forest fires, resolve land conflicts and overlapping permits.
