Indonesia’s development goes green in five years time, says official

Jakarta, Ekuatorial — Despite of recent development, senior official said that Indonesia would be able to include environmental awareness within five years time.

The statement issued by Kuntoro Mangkusubroto, head of Presidential Working Unit for the Supervision and Management of Development (UKP4), at a discussion on infrastructure in Jakarta, Tuesday (7/10).

Mangkusubroto said that infrastructure development will face many obstacles, including environment. Because, development have bigger potential to damage the environment if not done wisely. “However, I can ensure that future development will not neglect environment,” he said.

Furthermore, he said that it is predicted that Rp 6,000 trillion (US$ 491 billion) needed for the next five years. “Fifty percent will be coming from private sector and the rest from the state budget,” he said.

Meanwhile, Edwin Utama, partner and managing director of the Boston Consulting Group said that Indonesia’s infrastructure development was growing too slow because of land and budget issues.

Utama said that public private partnership scheme can tackle the problems. He cited that the Committee for the Acceleration of Infrastructure Priorities Provision (KPPIP), established in July 17, 2014, under the Presidential Regulation, will be able to encourage more on the public private partnership.
