Raja Ampat Documentary released

Sorong, Ekuatorial – Documentary film “Guardians of Raja Ampat” by world class cinematographers Shawn Heinrichs and John Weller hit premier WTC beach, Waisai, Raja Ampat, Papua, on Thursday (20/11).

The movie followed stories of people which have contributed to change the face of Raja Ampat to become a better conservation area, aside for economical benefits. The documentary also involved governments and civil societies related to Raja Ampat conservation area.

Both Heinrichs and Weller presented the documentary as a gift for people concerned with Raja Ampat.

“People can see how beautiful Raja Ampat is and its tradition which has been a part of guarding the environment and preserving ecosystem,” said Heinrichs who is also an Emmy award winner.

Meanwhile Weller praised on cooperation between local people, government, and NGO in Raja Ampat. “So making this documentary is very important and [feel] real, and can be inspiration for the world,” he added.

Meanwhile, head of Raja Ampat district Marcus Wanma said that he was grateful and appreciate the movie as it could inspire to make Raja Ampat more sustainable.

The 70 minutes documentary, which its process took five years, was taken completely in Raja Ampat. They are planning to showcast the documentary in 13 villages in Raja Ampat using an environment ships called “Kalabia”. Niken Proboretno
