The National Disaster Mitigation Agency or BNPB has deployed nine water bombing helicopters, — Kamov, Sikorsky, MI-8, and Bolco –, in Riau, Jambi, South Sumatra, West Kalimantan, and Central Kalimantan.
\nKamov, Sikorsky, and MI-8 helicopters are able to bring 4,000 liter with average of 50 flights per day per helicopters. <\/p>\n
Meanwhile, Bolco can carry 500 liters with 40 flights per day. \u201cIt is still not effective because Hercules and Casa [aircrafts] are still in maintenance. Several planes from the army also in maintenance so we are not able to do weather modification [to create rains],\u201d said Sutopo Purwo Nugroho, BNPB spokesman in a press conference. <\/p>\n
Nugroho said that Hercules\u2019 capacity was more suitable for water bombing for its wide range and bigger container.
\n\u201cAt least two Hercules for Sumatra and two Hercules for Kalimantan. It can carry as much as ten tons of water for one flight alone,\u201d he said adding Casa can carry at least one ton of water. <\/p>\n
However, if it gets worse he added that BNPB will add two Air Tractor airplanes from Australia and three Eurocopter helicopter from companies in Riau. <\/p>\n
