Jakarta, Ekuatorial<\/strong> \u2013 Jakarta Deputy Governor Basuki \u201cAhok\u201d Tjahaja Purnama said on Tuesday (7\/10) that the city administration will be relocating as much as 1,000 residents living in the eastern part of Pluit Dam, North Jakarta. <\/p>\n

\u201cThe relocation must be finished at least by the end of this year as we will start the Giant Sea Wall<\/a> development Phase A,\u201d said Ahok adding that they will be moved to low-cost apartments in Daan Mogot, West Jakarta and Muara Baru, North Jakarta. <\/p>\n

The Giant Sea Wall project, or National Capital Integrated Coastal Development, is a-32- kilometers dam runs through Jakarta-Bekasi on the east side and Jakarta-Tangerang on the west side. The 200 trillion rupiah (US$ 16 billion) project is designed to deal with flooding as a result of sea level rise, to clean river water before runs through the ocean, clean water supply, and coastal reclamation.<\/p>\n

It will be launched on Oct. 9 by Chaerul Tanjung, the Coordinating Minister for the Economy. <\/p>\n

The first phase will include dredging and dike elevating along eight kilometers of its shoreline. The city administration has allocated Rp 1.6 trillion (US$ 131 million) from its budget to finance the first phase for the next three years. <\/p>\n

The remaining 24 kilometers will be built by developers, winners of the tender. <\/p>\n

The second phase is constructing the wall in the deep sea followed by the last phase which will be building the Giant Sea Wall, man-made lake and massive pumps. <\/p>\n

Ahok said that the government wanted the project to move on because it will prevent tidal flood and provide clean water for its citizens.<\/p>\n

Previously, Ahok visited Saemangeum Sea Wall in South Korea before agree to work with the country on the development. <\/p>\n
