Jakarta, Ekuatorial<\/strong> – New Minister Marine and Fisheries Affairs, Susi Pudjiastuti, promised to optimize the country\u2019s marine potential. <\/p>\n

\u201cIndonesia\u2019s marine wealth is enormous but have yet to be managed,\u201d said Pudjiastuti in Jakarta, on Tuesday (28\/10). <\/p>\n

Furthermore, she said that one of her concerns was dealing with illegal fishing and over fishing in Indonesia.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe will formulate an effective solution for these aggressors at seas. Most of them occurred in eastern parts of the country, such as Papua, Sulawesi, and borders of the country,\u201d she said adding that her office will immediately release maps related to illegal fishing. \u201cI want to have Java, Sumatra, Sulawesi, East Nusa Tenggara, West Nusa Tenggara, and Papua maps, among others, to monitor areas every day.\u201d <\/p>\n

In addition, she said that they will set up national action plan to maximize the country\u2019s marine products. \u201cWe will record foreign and Indonesian ships to manage our seas. For the ships data, we will have it by next Friday,\u201d she said adding that they will coordinate with maritime coordinating ministry to monitor and enforce the law. <\/p>\n

With the data, she said that it would be easier to monitor activities at seas. <\/p>\n

Other problems she said that she would tackle were freight rates and long distribution time. \u201cIndonesia is an archipelago country but its transportation for fish takes too long. If fishes are dead then its value will decline,\u201d she said citing that it took nine hours to transport fish from Lombok to Medan. Januar Hakam<\/strong><\/p>\n
