Jakarta, Ekuatorial<\/strong> – Green activists recommended on Wednesday (5\/11) to extend current forest moratorium at the meeting with Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya Bakar<\/a>, in her office, in Manggala Wanabakti, Jakarta. <\/p>\n

Longgena Ginting, chairman of Greenpeace Indonesia, said three things came up at the meeting, on forest and climate, on forest moratorium, and on One Map Policy<\/a>. <\/p>\n

Ginting added that they recommended for full protection for peatlands as a result of Indonesia’s role as greenhouse gas emitter due to forest and peatland fires. Second, he said forest moratorium should be extended and strengthened which gave time for government to review all permits, especially on forest and land peats. “Forest moratorium will end on May 2015. It should be extended to achieve Indonesia’s target to reduce 26 – 41 percent emissions,” he said. <\/p>\n

Lastly, he said government should speed up the one-map policy to accelerate coordination in natural resources, environment, and spatial planning management. “One Map Policy will be able to break through ego-sectoral withing departments, including Ministry of Environment and Forestry, National Land Agency, Agriculture department, Ministry of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, among others,” he added. <\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Nurbaya said that they will follow up and study on these inputs. <\/p>\n
