Manado, Ekuatorial<\/strong> \u2013 Manado Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics or BMKG warned impacts of Typhoon Hagupit for people living in North Sulawesi, including Manado, the capital city. <\/p>\n

“Rains and winds happening now in North Sulawesi province were caused by tropical cyclone phenomenon, Typhoon Hagupit affecting wind pattern in the province,” said Novria, an official of Manado BMKG, on Sunday (7\/12). <\/p>\n

Typhoon Hagupit hit most of northern part of Philippines on Sunday (7\/12) forcing millions of people to evacuate to safer grounds. The cyclone moves very fast with 241 kilometers per hours, faster than waterspout which travels 60 kilometers per hour. Hagupit is considered dangerous for its strong winds, heavy rains, high tide and thunderstorms which resulted to floods and landslides. On latest development, at least three people died at the impacts of the storm in the Philippines. <\/p>\n

Though Typhoon Hagupit was actually far away from North Sulawesi, Novria said that it had affected wind pattern and formed more clouds. “It is far, but [we recommended] people to be alert and inform themselves from BMKG and government,” said Novria. <\/p>\n

Novria added that impacts of Typhoon Hagupit will resulted to potential light to moderate rains to hit southern parts of West Kalimantan, Central Kalimantan, North Kalimantan, North Sulawesi, North Maluku, and West Papua. In addition, two to three meters tide is predicted to to Sangihe island, northern part of Maluku sea, Halmahera Sea, east coast of Halmahera, Raja Ampat, and northern sea of West Papua.<\/p>\n

“High tide with three and four meters in Talaud Island, northern coastal areas of Halmahera, northern Pacific Ocean of Halmahera and Papua. People need to be alert at all times,” said Novria. <\/p>\n
