Manado, Ekuatorial<\/strong> \u2013 Heavy rains with strong winds hit Manado city of North Sulawesi from Saturday to Sunday causing at least three thousands people leaving their flooded houses to safer places, said an official on Sunday (11\/1). <\/p>\n

Based on Manado administration, floods affected Komo Luar sub-district with 221 families or 992 people, Pinaesaan sub-district with 16 families or 53 people , Sario Utara sub-district with 137 people. Meanwhile, 66 families or 765 people were evacuated from their houses located in Paal district. <\/p>\n

Furthermore, landslides occurred in East Kombos sub-district leaving at least eleven unit houses with mild damages. <\/p>\n

Vicky Lumentut, Manado Deputy Mayor, said public kitchens have been set up by the government for people affected by floods. “Public kitchens will be available for them. The government will open public kitchens from today [Sunday] and following days,” said Lumentut. <\/p>\n

Public kitchens were located in Horison Hotel, Pantekosta Church, and near gas station for Paal 2 district. They were also set up at the Manado Education Agency office for Perkamil region, head of sub-district office for Mahawu region, and Pikat. Other public kitchens were also set up at Kampung Tubir. “Other places will follow suit. Please inform [the government] which other locations needed for immediate actions,” he said. <\/p>\n

Ternate Tanjung sub-district head, Ramly Labatjo, said that there were three regions on his areas flooded and all of its residents were moved to nearest mosque, church, and schools.
