Manado, Ekuatorial<\/strong> \u2013 Mount Soputan<\/a> of North Sulawesi erupted on Wednesday (11\/2) morning but no significant threats to local villages, said a villager. <\/p>\n

“It [Mount Soputan] had erupted for six times for these past two months and it always followed by heavy rains. [However] villages’ activities are still normal,” said Ruland Sandag of Silian villager, Tombatu sub-district, Mitra district. <\/p>\n

Imelda Kawulusan, another villager of Tombatu sub-district, said that the mountain spewed volcanic ashes when it erupted. “We are still be careful [of the eruption] but it has yet to show significant impacts,” said the high school teacher. <\/p>\n

Nevertheless, head of Southeast Minahasa Disaster Mitigation Agency, Yopi Mokodaser, said that people living in the mountain’s slope areas needed to stay alert. “We encourage people to stay alert, especially people living within 6.5 kilometer from the mountain. <\/p>\n
