Jayapura, Jubi \u2013 Papua House of Representatives, Commission I, which oversees permit issues, had planned to submit illegal logging documents in Papua to the district attorney general as legislators stated they did not trust the police.

Ruben Magay, member of Commission A, said that they did not trust ‘the brown corps’ not without reason as they suspected that the institution had backed up illegal logging. <\/p>\n

“I suspect that certain individuals [oknum] at the police also took part so I am requesting the attorney general to deal with illegal logging in Papua. All data will be given to the attorney general so they’ll check all timber concessions companies’ permits in Papua,” said Ruben Magay, on Monday (2\/3\/2015).<\/p>\n

Magay had asked for Papua Forestry Agency to revoke all timber concessions permits in Papua. He said that they would also write to Papua Governor to grant those permits to Papuans instead. The hope is that Papuans can be prosperous by managing their own forests. <\/p>\n

“Certain individuals at the army back-up at the forest, certain individuals at the police back-up the road, and certain individuals at the navy back-up at the sea. This is not a secret. We took pictures of illegal logging,” he said. <\/p>\n

Furthermore, he said Papuans always being victimized. There are permits for timber industry and log, however permits for industry can be made by everyone. <\/p>\n

“It is only a shield. Logs are coming from legal place. In addition, they have to be accompanied with documents but in reality, there are logs entered the harbor with official documents,” he said. <\/p>\n

In separate place, head of Comission II, Deerd Tabuni had instructed to increase monitoring on illegal logging in Papua. (Arjuna Pademme)<\/p>\n
