Bandarlampung, Ekuatorial<\/strong> \u2013 Land use changes to plantation, mining, and ecosystem payment services have led to the collapsed of Lampung’s natural resources, activists said, on Monday (11\/5). <\/p>\n

Novriansyah, manager of Kawan Tani Lampung Project, said that plantation sector had reached 443,118,987 hectares, gold mining had reached 40,000 hectares and ecosystem services such as geothermal had reached 50,900 hectares in the province. <\/p>\n

“However, land use changes in Lampung are not followed by increasing people’s welfare. Instead, Lampung is the third poor province in Sumatra, after Bengkulu and Aceh,” he said. <\/p>\n

In addition, he said that collapsing natural resources was also contributed by community forest rights which covered nearly 80,000 hectares. <\/p>\n

“Lots of community forest are not working properly as they don’t plant hard plants,” he said adding that it threatens food security and causing water scarcity in Lampung. <\/p>\n

As a result, the province’s civil societies which are joined in the Reducing Emissions for Deforestation and Degradation (REDD) team, recommended for audits on communities and companies granted with rights of industrial plantation forests. <\/p>\n
