The Tuban Regency administration in East Java has asked the Join Operating Body Pertamina Pertrochina East Java (JOB-PPEJ) to take responsibility for the marine biota damages caused by a leak in the oil pipeline since Thursday, August 20, 2015. <\/p>\t\t

“They must be responsible for restoring the damaged marine ecosystem at the Palang District,” Tuban deputy regent Noor Nahar Hussein said on Friday, August 21, 2015.<\/p>\n

Noor Nahar urged the company to investigate the causes of the leak.<\/p>\n

“It was reported that the pipe is 15 years old. The issue must be addressed,” he said. Noor revealed that he immediately instructed the Tuban Environment Agency to measure the quality of sea water affected by the leak.<\/p>\n

Edy Thoyibi, an activist of Tuban Preservation Communicty, added that oil and gas contractors to be responsible for the leak, since it affected fishermen’s activities. Edy added that Tuban’s waters had been a center for coral reef and fish aggregating device development.<\/p>\n
