But can it be leveraged for conservation?\u00a0<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p>That\u2019s the thinking behind an effort currently underway in Morotai, a remote island in Indonesia\u2019s northern Moluccas, to establish the country\u2019s first surf reserve. The initiative uses surfing to draw awareness to the need for marine conservation and management.<\/p>\n<p>And it\u2019s being seen as an innovative way to address the impacts climate change, increasing plastic pollution and overfishing are having on Indonesia\u2019s marine riches \u2013 the same ones on which many islanders depend.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yf8TkvOoJhs\">https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=yf8TkvOoJhs<\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><em>Nicholas Landa Tami works with non-profit organization <a href=\"https:\/\/www.beyondthesurfaceinternational.org\/about\">Beyond the Surface International<\/a>\u2019s participatory audiovisual program, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.coast2coastmovement.com\/about-us\">Coast 2 Coast<\/a>.
