Compensation for Montara Oil Spill Victims in NTT

Senator Rachel Siewert of Parliement House Canberra pledged to fight for compensation for fishermen in West Timor, East Nusa Tenggara as victims of the oil spill caused by the Montara oil refinery explosion on August 21, 2009.

“I came here to get some input related to the disaster suffered by people due to the Montara oil spill in the Timor Sea,” said Senator Siewert from Western Australia when a dialogue with fishermen and seaweed farmers of Tablolong village, Kupang, NTT, Sunday afternoon.

Senator Siewart is accompanied by Greg Phelps, the attorney of the Yayasan Peduli Timor Barat (west timor care foundation in the case of the Timor Sea Pollution, visit the Tablolong village, to see closely the impact which experienced by coastal denizen from the oil spills that owned by Australasia’s PTTEP from Thailand.
