A researcher from the Halmos College of Natural Sciences and Oceanography Florida names a newly-identified crustacean found in Indonesian water after British music legend Elton John, NBC News reported. L.eltoni, the crustacean, is found inside other invertebrate in a commensal relationship.
Thomas said that he name the crustacean after Elton John to show his respect to the singer. He has always listens to Elton John’s music at the laboratory during his career.
“So, when this unusual crustacean with a greatly enlarged appendage appeared under my microscope after a day of collecting, an image of the shoes Elton John wore as the ‘Pinball Wizard’ came to mind,” Thomas said as quoted by NBC News.
Researchers later found out that L.eltoni had arrived in Hawaii as invasive species. Thomas’ study was published in the journal ZooKeys. Tempo/NBCNEWS
