New Species of Whiprays Discovered in Indonesia

Researcher of Indonesian Institute of Sciences (LIPI) has identified a new species of whiprays in Indonesian waters. So far there are three species of whiprays recognized. These whiprays indistinguishable visually because of similar physical appearance. Through molecule mapping methods of deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA), researchers make sure there is a fourth whipray. Three whiprays that have been identified are Himantura leoparda, Himantura uarnak, and Himantura undulata.
