Police investigates orangutan burning posted on facebook

Pangkalan Bun, Ekuatorial – After mounting protests through social media, police and West Kotawaringin Natural Resources Conservation Agency tracked down facebook account owner which displayed a man burning an orangutan.

Officials managed to track down the truck’s plate, KH 9563 GC, which was shown in the ‘Polo Panitia Hari Kiamat’ page to West Kotawaringin (Kobar), Central Kalimantan.

“We got the name of the truck owner. But, after we came to his house, he was not home. We’re trying to investigate whether the owner transported [orangutan] or only as driver,” said Hartono, head of Kobar Natural Resources Conservation agency.

Furthermore, he said that they have already questioned the owner whether witnessing the burning or getting the picture from other people. “We did not communicate with the owner because the account was closed down. But, we managed to talk to him today,” he said.

Heska Wahyu Widodo, chief of Kobar police, said that they have yet to receive official report from the agency about the burning but they have already investigated the picture. “We have yet to receive any reports but we’re investigating the picture,” said Widodo.

On current development, Pangkalan Bun Natural Resources Agency have arrested the first person posting the picture to facebook.
