Florence Armein is the Indonesia Content Coordinator for EJN's Asia-Pacific project where she manages Ekuatorial, a GeoJournalism site that uses geographic data and news stories to cover climate change in Indonesia. She joins EJN with over 10 years of experience in radio and television. At BeritaSatu Media Holdings, where she worked for five years, she managed a student publication, special media projects and established Indonesia’s first English news channel. Prior to her media work, Florence worked on development projects relating to judicial reform funded by MCC and USAID. Prior to joining EJN, Florence was working part-time as General Manager for Da Vinci Learning, a science and knowledge channel from Germany, and served as a Video Content Coordinator for the Indonesia Economic Forum and Indonesia Property Forum. Florence is based in Jakarta, Indonesia.

COP24: Indonesia Promotes Low-carbon Development Initiative

The Indonesian government at this year’s United Nations climate change summit promoted low-carbon development as a new initiative to reduce the country’s greenhouse gas emissions. This initiative will allow the country’s economic growth to reach between 5 to 6 percent a year, according to officials.

Bongkoran Farmers : A Grim Face of Indonesia’s Agrarian Reform

Bongkoran farmers of Wongsorejo, Banyuwangi district of East Java, who have occupied lands under the Dutch colonialization in the 10402, found themselves still struggling to get their lands to be recognized by the state nearly five decades later. The local government is planning to reinforce the consumption sago through policies and technology. Microplastic: The Invisible Threat

Humans are predicted to be producing up to 12 billion waste by 2050. While each year, at least 8 million tonnes of plastics leak into the ocean. Among this mass waste is microplastic – a plastic with less than five millimeter diameter that is making its way into the human body system. It enters through bottled water, tap water and cosmetics.
