Nine companies earned Green Award from Ministry of Environment and Forestry

Jakarta, Ekuatorial – Nine companies received “Gold” from Ministry of Environment and Forestry’s assessment on companies towards environmental law, known simply as Proper, in Jakarta, on Tuesday (2/12).

The nine companies are PT Badak NGL, PT Medco E&P Indonesia, PT Bukit Asam Persero tbk, PT Pertamina Geothermal Energi area Kamojang, PT Holcim Indonesia tbk area Cilacap, PT Biofarma Persero, PT Pertamina Persero terminal BBM Rewulu, Star Energi Geothermal Wayang Windu Limited, and PT Pertamina Aviasi Regional III DPPU Ngurah Rai.

Minister of Environment and Forestry, Siti Nurbaya said nine companies earned gold because they have managed to implement efficiency, reduce and manage their waste, which contributed to protecting the environment.

Beside nine gold companies, 121 companies earned green award which were capable to do energy efficiency up to 26 Giga Joule. In addition, those companies have also reduced water use up to 488 million cubic meters, reduce 11 million tons of dangerous (B3) solid waste and 2.4 million tons of B3 liquid waste.

Nurbaya said that compliance level from the company had increased four percent to become 72 percent with total of companies also increased six percent.

The ministry audited 1,908 companies, — nine earned Gold, 121 earned Green, 1,224 earned Blue, 516 earned Red, and 21 companie received Black. –. Nurbaya said that from 17 companies with Black labels, eight was being investigated for legal chargers, two companies no longer operating, three companies are in commissioning phase, and four companies have closed down.

“For Black companies, I have instructed deputy of environmental law compliance to gather materials for further investigation. If there are violations, then we will go for court,” she said.

Meanwhile, Vice President Jusuf Kalla said that all industries must environmentally friendly. “Damages made by companies will be felt and they must restore it immediately,” said Kalla adding that Gold companies means that they have received acceptance and acknowledgment from the people which can be considered as incentives.

He also demanded that Black companies should be announced to public to give deterrent effects. “It should motivated Black companies to improve their performance and awareness toward environment,” he said. Januar Hakam
