Watch out for these signs if you’re living in mountain areas

SLEMAN (kabarkota.com) – Civil engineering lecturer at Gadjah Mada University, Wahyu Wilopo, encouraged people living in the hills to increase their alertness especially when rain intensity reach 50 mm/hours or pouring down more than two hours.

He said the condition was potentially for landslides to happen as occurred in Banjarnegara, Central Java, recently.

“95 percent rain in Indonesia caused landslide,” said one of team member of the University which monitored landslide in Banjarnegara, on Monday (15/12). (Baca juga: Pakar UGM: Longsor di Banjarnegara akibat Dua Faktor)

He said that landslides were marked by soil cracks, seepage water, and dirty springs emerged suddenly, also slant soil structure and trees.

As a result, Wahyu recommended for people living in mountain areas prone to landslides to immediately evacuate when they saw any of those signs.
