Lampung govt prepares 70 artesian wells to anticipate drought

Bandarlampung, Ekuatorial – To anticipate long dry season, Bandarlampung administration is planning to create 70 artesian wells in areas prone to drought, such as Kedaton, Koga, Panjang, Sukabumi, and Kaliawi sub districts, said Bandarlampung Mayor Herman HN.

“For this year, local government also prepares clean water.” said Herman adding that water supply was sufficient in the time being.

Nevertheless, Way Rilau Bandarlampung Water Company (PDAM) recorded that water surcharge decreased seven percent from normal level, 560 liter per seconds.

As a result, the government also provides seven unit bus to distribute clean water to areas with water scarcity. Meanwhile, local mitigation disaster agency will be ready to operate its 12 water tanks.

Lampung data and information unit head of Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics, Sugiono said that Lampung had entered dry season by mid June.

“It [the temperature] can reach 34.5 degree Celsius in Lampung. It is still normal [but] we predict that it will reach 37 degree Celsius which is peak dry season by November,” said Sugiono adding that people should start to save water as there will be less rain for this year’s dry season.

He added that dry season has yet to spread in Lampung province as rain still hit coastal area and central Lampung.Eni Muslihah
