Endangered, Mangrove Forests of Aceh Tamiang

Illegal mangrove wood, according to Amrin, become raw material for charcoal production. Encroachers said, they earn 80-100 thousand Rupiah per day by selling the mangrove wood.

Meanwhile, local people reported that the perpetrators of mangrove encroachment not only some residents of Aceh Tamiang. Most of them come from Pangkalan Susu, North Sumatra. Spokesman for the non-governmental organizations Tamiang Care, Matsum, said that awareness of villagers in Pusong Kapal village about the importance of mangrove is high. They are active in planting and oversee the forest area that is now rehabilitated.
