Awareness to implement eco-friendly lifestyle is growing, also in property sector. Since officially formed in 2010, GBCI (Green Building Council Indonesia) as an institution that is given the authority to verify green building already gave a certificate to at least 10 buildings, where four of them got platinum predicate, the highest value given to the most environmentally friendly building.

Chairman of GBCI, Naning Adiwoso at Green Building Conference 2014 events in Jakarta (8/5) admit that this number is still very little. “The process is not as easy as turning hand over, there is rating-tools to do,” admits this senior architect. Criteria referenced by Naning and GBCI team such as land use, energy conservation, water conservation, use of green materials, air quality, and waste management.

Naning explains, the constructed building certification process take about three months, while for building to be built depends on duration of the building itself. For building management who will take GBCI certification, he explained there is various ranges, around 80 million rupiah. Certification obtained will be monitored and evaluated regularly every three years.

In the explanation, he mentioned some building that already received “Green Building” certification, they are The Ministry of Public Works, BCA, SBM ITB Cikarang, Prasetya Mulya BSD and Pacific Place.

Surabaya Style Green Revitalization

The mayor of Surabaya, Tri Rismaharini becomes one of the speakers in that seminar attended by hundred of property businessman. Risma as she is widely known share her success story to change the city.

“Surabaya was once closely linked to the image of “strait”, now it’s changed a lot. We did restoration everywhere. City parks and green open spaces built in many places, every road decorated by colorful flowers. The result is if you come to Surabaya the people have been more friendly and lots of smiles,” said mayor which some time ago accept the Socrates Award from the European Union.

Green revitalization led by Mayor Risma also can be felt in the availability of 250 trash bank, the saving water reached 15-20 % per month, and thematic artificial forest.
