Central Kalimantan Police declared 110 suspects over forest and land fires

Palangka Raya, Ekuatorial – Central Kalimantan police announced 110 suspects over forest and land fires on Friday (10/10), in Palangka Raya, Central Kalimantan.

“More than 100 suspects over land fires have been detained. They are still undergoing legal process, either for crime and civil [charges],” said Central Kalimantan Police Chief Bambang Hermanu adding that 106 suspects from 14 districts have been detained by Friday.

Previously, Central Kalimantan Special Crime Force Police Director Yayat Ruhiyat Hidayat said that one suspect died in Kapuas, 49 cases under investigation, 15 cases under initial investigation, 21 cases for further investigation, and 14 cases have been handed to prosecutor.

“Most of the suspects are just regular civilians, no one coming from companies,” said Hidayat on Thursday (9/10).
He said that most of them burned their own lands and got fees from the owners. However, they were negligent to let the fires went to neighboring areas

Furthermore, he said that they have yet to find people deliberately burning lands in wide areas. If the police found any indication, he said that they would charge them with criminal charges. “We are currently charging them with six months in prison or one million rupiah fine maximum,” he said.
