Shipment of Cocoa Bean from Papua Continues to Decline

Papua Province Agriculture Department data shows that since 2010-2013, shipments of cocoa bean from Papua has been declined about 67.5 percent, due to fruit borer pests of cocoa plant attack and a lack of understanding of the farmers. For example, in 2010 as many as 4,639,493 kg cocoa bean fell to 2.00863 million kg. Some districts that have became cocoa development centers are Keerom, Sarmi, Yapen, Nabire and Waropen, and Jayapura.
